Description

PURPOSE OF JOB 

The Senior Engineer is a senior technician responsible for installation and maintenance of the core systems supporting Austin PBS broadcast and production operations. This position ensures the continuous operation of these systems to maintain 24/7/365 broadcasting. 

JOB DUTIES

  • Responsible for installation, and maintenance of the broadcast and production systems supporting Austin PBS operations
  • Responsible for keeping the above operating reliably and consistently 24/7/365
  • Continuously improves systems and workflows
  • Supports productions and events as needed
  • Responsible for training and assisting staff in the operation of broadcast and production systems
  • Fully document new systems and procedures
  • Performs repairs on equipment as needed
  • Proactively provide knowledge and expertise to other staff members
  • Supports other Engineers and station staff as needed on productions and general technology projects
  • Effectively communicates with team members and management on priorities and resources
  • Must be available to work nights/weekends/holidays as needed to ensure 24/7/365 operations

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years experience installing, and maintaining broadcast and production systems at a television station or similar media organization, including but not limited to:
    • Broadcast automation/playout systems
    • ATSC air-chain systems and encoders
    • NAS systems and RAID arrays
    • File-based processing pipelines
    • Cameras, switchers, production graphics systems, audio mixers, headsets, and other associated studio production infrastructure
    • Studio lighting systems
    • Live streaming systems
    • Networks including routers, switches, and firewalls
    • General office computers and supporting systems
    • Field production equipment (cameras/lights/audio/etc)
  • Experience providing engineering support to productions is preferred
  • Direct experience with a majority of current systems in use at Austin PBS: Ross switching, Evertz routing and multiviewer, Evertz Dreamcatcher capture systems, Ross Tria and Xpression, ClearCom comms, Sony studio cameras, Broadstream automation/playout, Vantage transcoding, Facilis shared storage, Calrec and DiGiCo audio boards, Adobe Creative Suite, Avid Pro Tools, Google Workspace, Cisco and Ubiquiti networking.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS 

  • Expert-level knowledge of the systems used in broadcast and production operations
  • Advanced-level electronics and computer troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Knowledge of FCC and OSHA requirements, as well as general best safety practices, when working with broadcast and production systems including low- and high-voltage
  • Advanced general computer skills with experience across a variety of Windows/Mac/Linux platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to work on diverse projects simultaneously and self-direct, either independently or in a team of peers
  • Comfortable communicating with organization staff and management about project status and needs
  • Ability to manage time and tasks, work independently, and learn new technologies
 

This is a full time hourly position that is in-person. Paying $40.87/hour, approximately $85,000 annually.
